Helpful Hints
1- Why do most QB’s pass on 3rd down?
Most QB’s pass on 3rd down because of trying to run for yardage can be difficult. A short quick pass is hard to defend against. It could also be a long gain.
2- Logical distance to try a FG.
The logical distance to try for a field goal is normally from the 20yd line. Kickers are more accurate from that distance. A long field goal is considered from the 40/35 yd line can be made but is normally a low kick to get the distance. With tall lineman with there hands up in the air will block a long field goal attempt
3- Why run when you are on your end of the field inside your 30yd?
A turnover could be an easy score for your opponent.
4- Why punt on 4th down?
It is a good idea to put the ball down field to make the opponent travel more distance to your goal line. If you are on your own side of the field, and you have not reached the mid point on the 50yd line. It is always to your advantage to punt. Good idea to punt if you are 4th down on the opposite team line going on.
5- When should you punt and on what yard line?
4th down from your goal line to your opponent’s 40 yard line.
6- When not to chance a run on 4th down and punt.
Trying a 4th down run or pass is risky on your end of the field (you have not gained to the other team’s 40yd line).
7- When to chance a run on 4th down?
Trying a 4th down run maybe a good option on the other teams 5yd line.
8- Why do not pass when you are to close to your goal line.
Attempting a pass close to your own goal line can be risky. An interception will set up an easy score for an opponent.
9- When you are 1st and 10 on your opponent’s side of the field (Pass the 50 yard line) it will open many play selections.
